On August 14th we took the afternoon off to spend some time volunteering with a local organization who helps feed those in need in the Portland area. Urban Gleaners is all about reducing food waste and eliminating hunger. Since 2006 Tracy Oseran, her two children and their network of volunteers have worked to collect and redistribute 60,000 pounds of “rescued food” from local restaurants, grocery stores and bakeries every month. Urban Gleaners feeds over 4,000 people every week through their school pantries, summer free farmers markets and their Mobile Markets who visit low-income housing communities. In addition to the rescue and redistribution of fresh, delicious food, Tracy makes small-batch granola right here in Portland and 100% of the profits go to support Urban Gleaners. If you would like to support the Urban Gleaners as a volunteer, food donor, or with your wallet, please visit them online at www.UrbanGleaners.com
Giving back to the community that has supported us since we opened in 2018 has been something we’ve been wanting to do for a long time. I’m so proud of my team for finding a great organization like Urban Gleaners to kick off our volunteer program – Dr. Jacque Gambee
