Lead Specialist

Meet Dr. Calvin Rhoads

Dr. Rhoads’ commitment to patient-centered care began in the cornfields of Northeast Ohio and took shape through years of specialized training: Harvard School of Dental Medicine, a hospital-based residency at Oregon Health & Science University, and clinical fellowship training in special care dentistry with the Lee Specialty Clinic. He went on to spend nearly three years practicing in the remote SE Alaska, traveling to villages only reachable by ferry or seaplane where he created the region’s only adult special care clinic, held hospital privledges and a teaching appointment for the dental residency program in nearby Juneau.

He later served as a corrections dentist and mobile geriatric dentist in Western Colorado, bringing care directly to patients who couldn’t easily reach a clinic. That experience shaped a clinical philosophy centered on prevention: Dr. Rhoads is passionate about noninvasive, preventative care, and works to build the trust and comfort needed to complete treatment without sedation whenever it’s appropriate for the patient. When more support is needed, his in-house general anesthesia capability ensures comprehensive care is still possible — but the goal always starts with the least invasive path forward. At Roots Dental, he carries that same approach into every visit: listening first, moving at the patient’s pace, and meeting each individual with the level of care that’s right for them.
