Children's Dentistry in Portland
Your child’s smile warms your heart and brings you joy like nothing else can. When it comes to treating kids in our Portland dental office, we take a proactive approach that affords your child the opportunity to enjoy a lifetime of healthy, comfortable smiles.
Your Child’s First Dental Visit
When your child gets his or her first tooth or has their first birthday celebration, it’s time for a visit to Roots Dental. This early childhood dental visit is essential to developing a good foundation for your child’s oral health.
We will make this initial visit to our office fun and enjoyable for your little one. Building this relationship early helps take the fear of the unknown out of dentistry as your child gets older.
We will also spend plenty of time answering your questions about your child’s teeth and gums. We'll address:
- Habits such as thumb sucking
- Nutrition for healthy teeth
- How to brush and floss your child’s teeth
Dr. Leif Gambee or Dr. Jacque Gambee will make sure your child’s development is on track for their age.
Ongoing Pediatric Dentistry
As your child grows, we will add in preventive children’s dentistry services when they are ready, such as:
- Dental exams
- Teeth cleanings
- Bitewing x-rays
- Fluoride treatments
- Dental sealants
- Hygiene instruction
We always work at your child’s pace and never push treatment. Every child is different, and we look forward to meeting and learning more about yours.
Why Baby (Primary) Teeth Are Important
Protecting baby teeth is important. They provide a space holder and guidance for the permanent teeth as they develop and come in. We will save them whenever possible by restoring decayed teeth with fillings and broken teeth with crowns.
Gentle Children’s Dentistry
We never begin any treatment until your child’s tooth is completely numb. Comfort is a big priority for our dentists because we believe that dentistry can be a pain-free experience.
Dentistry for Teens
By their teenage years, kids will have all of their permanent teeth. Wisdom teeth are the last to erupt. We will evaluate your teenager’s oral health to determine if they need to have their wisdom teeth removed or if they require any orthodontic intervention to correct a misaligned bite.
We also create athletic mouthguards to protect your child’s teeth from all the fun they have playing sports.
Creating a Partnership with Parents
We believe that if parents, kids, and our dentists work together as a team, your child has the best chance of having a healthy beautiful smile for many years to come. Developing good habits early means fewer dental procedures in their future!
