Potential Causes of Tooth Pain

Man with Jaw Pain | Emergency Dentist Portland ORTooth pain can come on gradually over a period of days or even weeks – or it might start all at once. Any kind of pain is an indication that something is wrong and requires your immediate attention.

At Roots Dental, we treat dental emergencies quickly, so that you can get back to work, school, kids, and life.

Tooth pain can indicate:

  • A broken or cracked tooth
  • An infection near your nerve
  • Deep decay
  • Periodontal infection
  • Gum recession
  • Misalignment

To determine the cause of your tooth pain, we will need to schedule an appointment with Dr. Jacqueline Gambee or Dr. Leif Gambee to make an accurate diagnosis and treatment recommendation.

Your Emergency Dental Appointment

Tooth graphic | Emergency Dentist Portland ORWe know that dental emergencies are never ideal and often occur at the worst times. Rather than putting off treatment, contact us right away. Dental pain will not typically resolve on its own.

We will first gather information about your dental emergency and your medical history so that we can provide you with the very best care possible.

Your dental emergency care will likely include a dental x-ray so that we can examine what is happening beneath your gums and enamel. This will assist our dentists in providing accurate treatment and documentation for your insurance company, if necessary.

Once the dentist has an opportunity to review your x-ray and perform an emergency exam, he will make a recommendation for treatment to relieve your symptoms and potentially save your tooth.

Treatment may include one or more of the following:

  • Root canal therapy
  • Dental crown
  • Filling
  • Periodontal treatment
  • Tooth extraction

We will do our best to complete treatment at your emergency dental appointment. In some cases, your treatment may require a follow-up appointment.

If you are new to our Portland dental office, we invite you to become a regular patient so that we can provide you with the necessary dental care to keep you healthy and avoid dental emergencies in the future.

Comfortable, Gentle Dentistry

We know that sometimes patients stay away from the dentist because of anxiety or fear of treatment. We are confident that you will find our entire team to be professional and compassionate.

We also offer sedation dentistry options for our fearful patients.
